Help-A-Family Program to Assist Evacuees

“Help-A-Family” Program to Assist Evacuees

The City of Longview and Gregg County announce the launch concept of the “Help-A-Family” program. Other agencies have offered to assist in the donation management efforts. This program is similar to the Salvation Army’s “Angel Tree” and allows individuals, businesses and civic organizations to provide specific needs of evacuees. Within the next few days, displaced families will have the opportunity, through a simple form, to list immediate necessities. According to Laura Hill, Community Services Director for the City of Longview , “Our community can best demonstrate our sense of compassion, by meeting specific needs. This may not be home, but for now, our goal is to make their stay here as pleasant as possible. We’re trying to help diminish some of the anxiety that is experienced after a devastating loss.” A phone number has been set up to provide information about donation locations and current needs.

The number is 903-237-2730 and will be activated on Sept. 1. In addition, local officials will provide updates in reference to other relief efforts.
