TYLER, TX (KLTV) - You might notice a few blue pinwheels popping up in your neighbor's yards this month as they advocate for the prevention of child abuse.
In honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Tyler-Smith County Child Welfare Board is selling pinwheels to those who want to help fight child abuse. Prevent Child Abuse America introduced a campaign back in 2008 called "Pinwheels for Prevention."
Tyler-Smith County Child Welfare board member Jackie George said the pinwheel symbolizes the great childhood every kid deserves.
"The donations for pinwheels go to the Tyler-Smith County Child Welfare Board," George said. "Our goal is to provide a sense of normalcy and meet tangible needs of foster children in [the] Tyler-Smith County area."
Funds received from the pinwheel donations allows the child welfare board to provide clothing allowances and funds for school-related expenses for foster families and foster children.
