GREGG COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A Gregg County man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for aggravated robbery after a 2017 incident where police say he forced his way into a home and struck a resident with a rock.
Malique Henderson entered a guilty plea Thursday to two counts of aggravated robbery in connection with the home invasion and "violent assault of the Wileys," the Gregg County District Attorney's Office said in a statement.
On April 6, 2017, Henderson approached a home in the 1100 block of South Green Street. Police said at the time of the incident that he knocked on the door and when the resident answered, he struck them in the face with a rock or piece of broken concrete. He then forced his way inside and confronted another resident who police said was also struck.
Henderson took some items and fled the scene.
"Seven civilians from the neighborhood chased Henderson down and Longview Police responded within minutes apprehending the suspect even before the victims were transported to the hospital," the DA's office said in the statement.
Both victims suffered severe injuries, according to the district attorney's office.
"The Wileys were present for the plea and stated they forgave Henderson for his actions, but those actions did deserve a fair and just consequence," the statement reads.
