Nearly five months after an East Texas boy was born severely premature, his family says he's on the road to finally leaving the hospital.
Ezra Cole was born November 6th, 2017. His mother, Regan Daugherty, says he was born at “25 weeks, but he was 'growth restricted' four, so kind of like 21 weeks”. He was 11 inches long and 14 ounces.
She gave birth at Medical City Children's Hospital in Dallas after being careflighted from East Texas.
Daugherty said, “The doctor came in the night that he was born… and she said he only had a 20% chance of survival." Ezra was born with brain, digestive and heart issues.
After his birth, family and friends began reaching out to Daugherty, and Ezra’s father Dilon Fitts, for health updates. The two began posting video updates on social media and prayers started pouring in from across the globe. Daugherty said, “It’s been so overwhelming how far his story has reached.”
Fighting the odds, Ezra is two days shy of five-months-old. He still needs to reach certain milestones before he can go home, but Daugherty says, “he's getting really close”.
