TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Tyler police are responded to a situation on an overpass on S. Broadway and Toll 49.
Tyler police say a distressed man got out of his vehicle and stood at the edge of the bridge.
"We've actually dealt with this person in the past, where we do believe that there is some type of medication issue or mental illness or something," Tyler Police Officer Don Martin said.
Police say the man police were negotiating with is in their custody. No one was injured.
Suspect was on bridge from around 12:45 p.m. until 2:40 p.m. He was taken into custody and will be taken for a medical evaluation.
As of 3:00 p.m. all lanes on US Highway 69 and Toll 49 have reopened.
Police are negotiating with a man on the bridge overpass. Tyler Police tells KLTV negotiators are working to get him down.
According to police reports, the department responded to a welfare concern just before 12:45 p.m.
Multiple lanes on Loop 49 and South Broadway have been blocked off. Police are advising travelers to seek alternative routes.
