PANOLA COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Two parents who were wanted in connection with the death of their 2-year-old have turned themselves in, officials say.

The Panola County Texas Sheriff's Office says that Braylyn Sheppard, 25, and Brianna Jones, 22, of Beckville, turned themselves in to authorities Tuesday. Both are charged with injury to a child in connection with the death of their son Kaisyn earlier this month. They have been booked into the Panola County Detention Center and are waiting to be arraigned.

Sheriff Kevin Lake thanked residents for their help in locating the couple.

"I would like to praise all of the investigators for their hard work in this case, as well as the citizens who gave helpful information. Despite false information some reported and other obstacles that hindered a faster apprehension of the suspects, the two are now in custody allowing our attention to focus on the completion of the case," Lake said.

Officials had been searching for Sheppard and Jones since the March 15 death of their son Kaisyn, 2.

On March 14,  deputies were called to the UT Carthage emergency room regarding an unconscious 2-year-old that was brought in by ambulance.

Medical personnel pointed out contusions on Kaisyn's head and face. He also had internal injuries and was unresponsive and being prepared to be airlifted to Children's Medical Center in Dallas.

The parents told investigators that Kaisyn had fallen off the porch on March 11 and struck his head on concrete causing the injuries to his face. They said the next day that he reportedly vomited blood twice and complained of stomach pains. On March 13, when he became unresponsive, they contacted 911.
