DPS identifies 3 killed in crash in Alba

ALBA, TX (KLTV) - Three people were killed after a Sunday morning crash in Alba.

The crash occurred about 2:35 a.m. on U.S. 69, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS says Kenneth Louis Lewers, 22 of Alba, Dawn Lee Fitzpatrick, 18 of Alba and Hayley Fitzpatrick, 16 of Winnsboro were all killed in the crash.

According to a preliminary DPS crash report, Lewers was driving a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500, traveling southeast on U.S. 69. Investigators believe Lewers was traveling at an unsafe speed when he traveled onto an improved shoulder, overcorrected to the left and the vehicle went into a side skid. The vehicle then traveled across the roadway and into a northeast ditch before striking a tree.

Lewers and the two passengers in the vehicle, Dawn Fitzpatrick and Hayley Fitzpatrick, were all pronounced dead at the scene. Their bodies were transported to Wilson Orwosky Funeral Home in Emory.

DPS says all occupants were wearing their seatbelts and the crash remains under investigation.
