Man arrested after making threats to a murder trial witness

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - The father of a Smith County murder suspect has been arrested after allegedly making threats to a trial witness.

Wednesday, March 28th, detectives from the Smith County Sheriff's Office secured an arrest warrant for Martin Wesley Reynolds Sr., 45, for Tampering with a Witness, a First Degree Felony.

The warrant was signed by Judge Kerry Russell of the 7th Judicial District Court and a $200,000 bond amount was assigned.

Detectives had received information that Reynolds made threats to cause serious bodily injury against several witnesses who are scheduled to testify during his son's upcoming murder trial. Martin Reynolds Jr. is charged with the murder of Andrew Carpenter, 19, of Whitehouse. Reynolds Jr. is currently in the Smith County Jail. His jury trial is scheduled for May 14, 2018.

Detectives, through their investigation, were able to confirm the threats made by Reynolds Sr. to the witnesses.
