CHAPEL HILL, TX (KLTV) - What a great way to end the week!
Students at Kissam Elementary School in Chapel Hill, let loose and busted a move at the All-Staar pep rally this afternoon.
Charla McClure took off her principal hat Thursday to have fun with her students and get them ready to take their Staar test.
"It's important to engage students and to also motivate them to do their best, " said McClure.
McClure said today was all about getting students to relax and engage in activities where they take their time.
"We want to let them know to prepare, calm down, take time, and make sure they're not rushing while they prepare to take the test."
McClure says it's important for each of her students to become their personal best, and that everyone has their own best.
Retired Milwaukee Bucks player, Sidney Moncrief, joined the rally and spoke to students, giving them strategies and even a few autographs. McClure says Moncrief encouraged the students and let them know it's important to not take shortcuts in life.
The kids also participated in a popsicle celebration and gathered together outside to dance.
All students in the state of Texas will take their Staar exam on April 10.
"When they set their goals... we always reward them and recognize when they've met their goals," said McClure.
McClure is in her first year as principal for Kissam Elementary. She says she's greatly enjoying time with her students and her staff.
