CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Cherokee County Sheriffs Office deputies are investigating after a woman was allegedly assaulted by a group of men.

CCSO released a statement on the investigation Thursday afternoon.

The sheriff's office said in a press release that the woman told deputies who were working off-duty security for the event that she was assaulted by two to three men she did not know during the Mud Nationals event at Mud Creek ATV Park on March 23.

"Mud Creek paramedics and off-duty security made contact with a female. She stated that she had been assaulted by 2-3 unknown males. The female stated that she did not know the offenders in the incident, or where they could possibly be camped at," the release states.

According to the release, she did not file a report at that time.

"At this time, the female advised that she did not wish to file a report with authorities. The female was advised at that time, that if she changed her mind, that she could make contact with any security personnel at the park and a report would be filed," the release states.

On March 27, the woman contacted the sheriff's office to file a report.

The investigation remains active, the sheriff's office says.
