WHITEHOUSE, TX (KLTV) -

Two people were trapped in a car the afternoon after the driver tried to cross a flooded part of the road.

Steven Hibbard's car got trapped in the high waters on County Road 113 in Whitehouse this afternoon. Hibbard said that he was driving when he saw water covering the road  ahead. He didn't realize how high the water was and believed that if he turned around his car would stall.

His car then was overpowered by the high water and the car was trapped. Once he realized the situation, Hibbard called 911.

Whitehouse Fire Department responded to the call but they were not able to rescue the car out of the water. Hibbard and his passenger made it out of the car without incident and no one was hurt.

A wrecking service told Hibbard that he would have to wait till the water recedes to get the car back. The only thing left for Hibbard to do is explain it to his father, the owner of the car.

"He's going to be angry," said Hibbard, "But if its not too expensive it will be fine."

Roads throughout all of East Texas have been closed due to flooding caused by the recent heavy rains.
