Gregg County Sheriff's Office reveals reason standoff occurred Monday night

The Gregg County Sheriff's Office has revealed the reason behind a standoff that occurred on Monday night.

Captain Craig Harrington with the sheriff's office says that law enforcement officials approached a man's residence to serve a mental health evaluation warrant. The home is on Danville Road in Kilgore. The man had fired off several shots inside of the residence, prior to their arrival, Captain Herrington said.

When they arrived to serve the warrant, they could not make contact with him. That is when back-up was requested and responded to assist in negotiating with the subject.

The man's identity has not been released.

The initial shots fired call came into police around 6 pm Monday night in the 2700 block of Danville Road, near Utzman Road in Kilgore. Numerous law enforcement agencies assisted in the peaceful resolution of the situation. No injuries were reported.
