LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

A fire in Longview reportedly burned around 3 acres on Tuesday.

The fire occurred in the 200 block of Oak Ridge Lane. According to Gregg County Fire Marshal Mark Moore, the fire began while a resident was burning leaves in their backyard.

Heavy wind gusts brought upon by incoming storms caused the fire to rapidly spread into other backyards and a nearby wooded area.

"When we are going to have strong winds like this, with the winds up to 23 to 25 miles per hour its just not a good day to burn,” says Moore.

Forest services were called in out of Gilmer. The fire was under control shortly after 2:30, according to Longview fire.

West Harrison Fire Department and Longview fire responded.

No one was injured, according to officials.

The Gregg County Fire Marshal's Office is asking all residents to refrain from doing any outdoor burning until there is substantial rainfall.
