The driver of a minivan involved in a fatal wreck on I-30 on Friday was released from the hospital over the weekend but went back again today for surgery.

Jeffery Brokish, 42, of Savoy, Illinois, was treated and released from Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital over the weekend. Brokish went back to the hospital today for surgery, according to Sgt. Sylvia Jennings with DPS.

Brokish's wife, Jessica Brokish, 41, two sons, ages nine and six, as well as his two-year-old daughter, were pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck.

The incident began when a U-haul overturned on Friday morning, blocking traffic on I-30 in the eastbound lanes. About an hour later, three 18-wheelers failed to stop for that wreck, clipping one another. The fourth semi plowed into the back of the minivan Brokish was driving, sandwiching the van in between the third and fourth semi, according to DPS.

A Go Fund Me account for the family has raised more than $13,000 in one day.

The investigation into the wreck is still ongoing at this time.
