ATHENS, TX (KLTV) - Athens police have arrested a man accused of not stopping for officers and taking them on a low-speed chase to his home.

Stan Keith Johnson, 50, of Athens is charged with evading arrest and endangering a child. He was also booked into the Henderson County Jail on a warrant for sex offenders duty to register. He is being held on a collective bond of $6,500.

Assistant Chief Rodney Williams said officers tried to stop Johnson on a traffic violation Friday in the 200 block of Prairieville Street at 11:50 p.m. but Johnson would not stop.

Williams said police followed Johnson to his house in the 100 block of Gibson Road. Williams said Johnson got out of his car and police were able to arrest him.

Williams said it was then discovered Johnson was driving with a young child in the car. Williams said even though Johnson was not driving fast, he still put the child in danger by evading police.

The child was turned over to the custody of a woman who was at the house and Johnson was arrested, Williams said.

According to Google Maps, the chase lasted about two miles.
