HOPKINS COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A Hopkins County grand jury has indicted five people on money laundering charges.
District court records show Enrique Degante, Karen Reyes, Yuri Garcia-Ramirez, Darren Michael Nelson and Juan Torres are each charged with money laundering >=$2,500<$30K.
According to a previous KLTV story, Degante and Reyes are a married couple arrested in December after they admitted to traveling with bundles of thousands of dollars in order to buy high-grade marijuana in California.
A deputy reported pulling them over on Dec. 13 and found a roll of vacuum-seal bags, a large roll of shrinkwrap and two kinds of rope used to bundle money. One of the baggies had the word "Sky Walker" on it. According to the report, the deputy determined "Sky Waler" is a specific strain of marijuana.
According to a previous story, Nelson was arrested in January after a deputy searched the Greyhound bus on a routine stop for the search of drugs, weapons and large sums of money. The deputy reported $7,000 in Nelson's front pants pocket and $12,000 wrapped in his underwear inside his bag.
Court dates on all five have not yet been set.
