Spring weather brings spike in insects

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Insects begin to emerge in warm temperature across East Texas and they might accidentally find themselves inside your house.

With spring only just beginning it's important to take care of unwanted pest before it becomes a problem.

"We get a lot of calls for Asian beetles, mosquitoes because the weather is pretty, flowers are blooming so everything is kind of coming out," Said Carl Lane with Lane Pest Control."So, we're getting a lot of calls for just your general insects right now, especially wasp."

Lane says in East Texas it's the season for mosquitoes, Asian beetles, ants, wasps, and termites.

"Termites are about every March and April," said Lane. "Every year, usually right after rain and shower when it's pretty."

Lane has simple steps to prevent pests from invading inside and around your home.

He recommends to always keep all doors and windows shut.

Inspect your window screens, doorknobs, and door frames for any holes insect might use to get in.

When it comes to the outside of your home keep a close eye on bushes, or shrubs which can easily house different insects.

Lane says there are store-bought products that can exterminate pests, but if the problem continues a professional might be needed.

"When using the wrong product you can be harming the bees, and we don't want you to do," said Lane. "So, it's good to get a professional to come out with the right product to take care of your problem and to do it in a safe matter."

Experts say there are "green-friendly" treatments also available and they recommend spraying inside and outside a home every three months.
