SABINE COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A first time boating event was held on the Sabine river Saturday.
It was the inaugural Mardi Gras boat parade regatta along the Sabine River, south of White Oak.
Throwing colorful beads and candy treats to people on the shoreline, the decorated boats made their way up to the Sand-Bar Marina to dock, and continue the party.
Some of the watercraft traveled long distances to be a part of the event which organizers hope will become a signature for East Texas.
"We're looking forward to it, it's going to be fun, throwing beads Mardi Gras style.
Hopefully, there will be a lot of boats decorated float style," said regatta participant Becky Durban.
The craft will stay overnight and be back on their way home on Sunday.
