Elderly woman speaks out after home shot at six times while sleeping

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Tyler police are investigating a drive-by shooting after an elderly woman was nearly shot.

It happened early Monday around 1:00 a.m. in the 1300 block of Ridgeview Drive in Tyler.

“I was asleep right there in that chair and I woke up right at one and I heard some noise, and then the bullets, I heard the shots,” victim Wanda Armstrong says.

84-year-old Armstrong fell asleep in her recliner, when suddenly she was awakened by a series of thundering blasts and shattering glass.

“I thank the good Lord because he said he would protect me, and he did,” Armstrong says.

Armstrong unknowingly avoided six gunshots, one barely missing her stomach.

Now Tyler police are investigating a drive by shooting, and they say with no witnesses or motive, a closed case looks pretty far off.

This God-fearing woman says she has not lost a wink of sleep.

“I slept there last night. I wasn’t afraid to sleep there last night,” Armstrong says.

Tyler police say if you have any information about this investigation, they urge you to call the department immediately.
