HALLSVILLE, TX (KLTV) - Hallsville police have arrested a woman after her 3-year-old child was found roaming the streets and police reported finding her passed out drunk on the couch in her apartment.
Christina Lynn Melton, 39, of Hallsville, is charged with endangering a child.
Investigator David Burrows said police were dispatched to the intersection of Branch Street and Willow Street at 4 p.m. Monday after two people had stopped and picked up a 3-year-old child because they were concerned. Burrows said when they arrived, the child pointed out their apartment on Willow Street.
Burrows said he checked the apartment and found the door open and the mother asleep on the couch. He said he she was drunk and he could not wake her and had to call EMS to the apartment to wake her.
Burrows said a family member was called to the home to take custody of the 3-year-old and another child who had come home from school after police arrived.
Police then arrested Melton, Burrows said. She is being held on a $7,500 bond.
