LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - The Longview Arboretum got a step closer to meeting its $2 million construction budget.
The Sabine River Authority handed over a $10,000 check to be used to help drainage at the park. The project has been in its formative stages since 2012, but now construction is set to begin since $1.7 million is now in place.
"The Sabine River Authority is interested in economic development of the Sabine River basin. So in 2002 we developed a grant program in order to aid entities in the Sabine River basin with different types of projects, primarily water-related," said Mary Vann with the Sabine River Authority.
The Sabine River Authority accepts grant applications for projects located in the Sabine River basin, and handed out over two-hundred thousand dollars last year.
