A grass fire wipes out 60 acres of forest in Smith County.
Thirty-four firefighters and the Texas Forest Service battled the blaze near FM 2015 and County Road 350.
Fire officials say a lightning strike likely set it off Saturday, but it was not until Sunday that someone saw smoke and called the fire department.
"We did have some structures threatened over on FM 3147," Brad Wilson, training officer for the Red Springs Fire Department, said. "We had some barns, houses. They were able to get over there and contain it before it hit the barns and houses."
Fire officials say over the past few days, lightning has caused 10 grass fires in the Winona, Lindale, and Red Springs areas.
