Tyler suspect tased, arrested after fighting in street, spitting, kicking officers

A Tyler man was arrested over the weekend after he was spotted by an officer fighting in the street. Police say the man didn't comply with officer commands, hit, spit, and kicked an officer in the groin. 

Joel Ramirez Galan, 41, of Tyler was arrested and charged with assault on a public servant, obstruction or retaliation, public intoxication, evading arrest/detention, and resisting arrest, search, or transport.

According to police, Galan was spotted by an officer in the 800 block of Selman Street around 3:30 in the afternoon on Friday.

Galan was reported to be extremely intoxicated and possibly under the influence of drugs. Galan did not comply with officer's orders and became belligerent, kicking, hitting, and spitting at officers.

According to Public Information Officer Don Martin, officers attempted to tase Galan but it didn't work. They then sprayed Galan and eventually was able to get him into custody. 

Martin says Galan laid down in the backseat of the squad car and kicked an officer in the groin. 

Galan was taken to the Smith County Jail. His bonds total $80,500.
