LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

The City of Longview is hoping residents show up in a big way to help with homeless outreach efforts.

The city is asking for items to fill bags that will be given to the homeless during the city's first Homeless Resource Day on March 24 at the Longview Fire Department Training Center at Teague Park, 411 American Legion Boulevard.

Interested in creating a Homeless Outreach Bag? Here's what the city is recommending you put in one:

  • individual sized and/or individually wrapped bottled water
  • snack crackers
  • dried fruit
  • granola bars
  • breakfast bars
  • nuts
  • pull-top canned food
  • juice
  • fruit cups
  • beef jerky
  • cereal
  • trail mix

Other miscellaneous and hygiene items that are needed include socks, toothpaste, toothbrushes, hairbrushes, combs, wet wipes, hand sanitizer, deodorant, band-aids, chapstick, tissues and plastic utensils.

Donations can be dropped off at the Longview Public Library, 222 W. Cotton St. during regular hours.
