WOOD COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A Winnsboro man is in the Wood County jail on three criminal charges following an investigation into him allegedly drunk driving and wrecking while his daughter was in the vehicle with him.
Andre Deon Wells, 35, is charged with accident involving damage to a vehicle, tampering with evidence and endangering a child. He was arrested on the charge Thursday and is being held on a collective $60,000 bond.
According to an arrest affidavit, a state trooper was called out to a two-vehicle wreck on Feb. 26 at the intersection of FM 852 and County Road 4430. Before the trooper arrived, they learned Wells was trying to leave the scene and he was intoxicated.
A volunteer firefighter said Wells did leave and nearly ran over him while doing so. The trooper then spoke with Wells' 13-year-old daughter, who Wells left behind. The daughter said her father had been drinking and was going too fast when he hit the car. She said her father told her to get into the car so they could leave, but she was too scared to.
A judge signed a warrant for Wells' arrest on March 6.
