JACKSONVILLE, TX (KLTV) -

Biggest surprise at the XIV basketball tournament was 9th seed Kilgore surprising top seed Trinity Valley with the upset 81-73 and will play 4th seed Blinn.

As for the Apaches, they never trailed against an athletic Lamar State team out of Port Arthur. Brian Warren set up his play making teammates as they would stifle the defensive play of Lamar St.  Crashing the boards with ease, but late the visitors put on a nice little run, getting as close as 3 points.

Have to credit Mike Marquis' team for how they kept their composure down the stretch to hold off a very determined Lamar State team.  Now they will play a high flying San Jac team seeded third.  The recipe is to get more second and third shots offensively and keep the jumping San Jac team from breaking loose on the fast break.  Athleticism will be at a premium Friday evening tip off is at 8pm.
