'Beauty and the Box' program adds two new art installments

Two more traffic signal boxes in the city of Tyler have been transformed into beautiful works of art.

According to a City of Tyler press release, the two new artworks are located at Old Jacksonville Highway and Troup Highway. At Old Jacksonville Highway and Grande Boulevard, a photograph of roses taken by David Di Paolo has been sponsored by Latta Dentistry. On the corner of Troup Highway and Lindbergh Drive, an abstract tree by artist Julia Bradshaw wraps the traffic box.

Keep Tyler Beautiful started the award-winning Beauty and the Box program in 2016. The program was established to take utilitarian boxes and transform them into beautiful works of art by artists in the local area. The program started with ten boxes in the Downtown Business Arts and Culture District, but now it has grown to 21 vinyl-wrapped boxes all around the city of Tyler.

Anyone living in Tyler or surrounding areas can sponsor a utility box. The sponsor will choose from a selection of approved artwork at Main Street Gallery along with a small sponsor banner that will be placed at the bottom of the box. The banner will include the name of the business/organization. Local artists are encouraged daily to submit their artwork to Main Street Gallery to be considered for this program.
