TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The Tyler Police Department is warning the public and local businesses to beware of fraudulent calls.
According to police, businesses have reported calls to their stores. The callers advise that they are with upper management or loss prevention and convince an unwitting employee that they need to send money to handle a claim of someone falling in the store, or something similar.
The caller then instructs the employee to Western Union money or the typical gift card hoax from the store's cash. They even keep the employee on the phone and walk them through the process.
Police advise that if you receive a call like this you should ask for a name and number and inform them that you will return the call once you have looked into the claim. Also, contact your internal management to verify the information.
