Primary propositions: People weigh in on potential party platforms

Smith County Courthouse on March 6, during the Primary Election Smith County Courthouse on March 6, during the Primary Election
TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Voters in the primary election on Tuesday were asked for their opinion on a series of propositions.

Republicans and Democrats were asked by their political parties to weigh in on issues including property taxes, national health care, toll roads, and building professional sports stadiums with tax dollars.

Propositions are non-binding, meaning they do not create laws. Voting results are used to inform party leaders and elected officials on where voters stand on the issues. The results can also be taken into consideration when the party platform is up for discussion.

Keep in mind that this was compiled from unofficial primary election results, and there are some mail-in and provisional ballots still afloat, so these percentages could change slightly.

So even though the results below have no lasting impact, public response to questions put forth by each party provides some interesting insight into what Texans who voted in the primary think about a specific issue.
