LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - Cecilia Kim, an aviation student at LeTourneau University, has been selected to receive the American Airlines $5,000 scholarship. She will also be given an all-expense paid-trip to the Women in Aviation conference in Reno, Nevada to receive the reward.
In order to qualify for this achievement, Kim was required to be a member of WIA. She also had to submit an application that described how the scholarship would help her achieve her career goals in becoming a professional aviator.
She attended the the 2016 and 2017 WIA International conferences where she enhanced her knowledge in aviation and made contacts in the aviation industry. She was also a volunteer at the North Texas Chapter's Girls in Aviation Day event.
Kim, who was born in Korea but raised in Fiji, wants to be a role model for women of different cultures so that they also can pursue professional flight as a career.
"Cecilia has the motivation and skills to become a true aviation professional. She is dedicated, professional, intelligent, and has an excellent attitude and willingness to serve others," said LETU Director of Flight Operations Laura Laster.
