Upshur County Sheriff's Office identifies victims, suspect in morning shooting

Upshur County Sheriff's deputies were called to the scene of a shooting this morning and found two people dead inside a residence.

The call came in around 9 a.m. from a residence on Private Road 1999, off of 1844, near Highway 271. 

Deputies discovered two people dead inside the home from apparent gunshot wounds. A third person was inside the house when deputies arrived. That person was injured and was transported to the hospital. 

The suspect reportedly took off after the shooting. Deputies put out a description of the suspect's vehicle. He was discovered in Longview in the 3,000 block of  Highway 80 and West Loop 281 and was arrested.

The Upshur County Sheriff's Office released the following information on Tuesday evening:

At approximately 0900 hours on March 6, 2018, deputies were dispatched to 1011 PR 1999 in reference to a shooting call. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that two persons were deceased at the scene and another person was injured, all from apparent gunshot wounds.

The injured person was transported by ambulance for medical care. His condition is not available at this report time.

Dead at the scene were Lisa Anne Moore, age 49, of Gladewater and Dylan Moore, age 19, of Gladewater.

During the course of the investigation, information was received concerning a possible location to search for the actor involved in the crime. Upshur County officials asked Longview Police to check a location near Loop 281 and Hwy 80 in Longview. Longview police located the suspect in the case at this location, where he was taken into custody.

The suspect, Joseph Lee Adkins, age 53, of Gladewater, is charged with Capital Murder due to two persons having been killed in one criminal episode.

All persons related to this case were known to each other. Investigators suspect this to be connected to ongoing domestic issues between the actor and the victims.

The Sheriff’s Office does not consider there to be any further threat to nearby residents related to this event.

The Upshur County Sheriff’s Office thanks the Longview Police Department for their swift response to the call for assistance in this case, resulting in the arrest of the suspect.

Also, The Texas Rangers are providing assistance to the Sheriff’s Office with crime scene investigation and have offered assistance with follow-up work related to the case.

Adkin's bond has been set at $4 million. 

Union Grove schools were put on a soft lockdown for a brief amount of time, according to the Upshur County Sheriff's Office. The school was never in any kind of danger, it was just a precaution.
