LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

Crews are responding to a gas leak in Longview.

The leak occurred near the intersection of Thirteenth and Level Streets.

According to a spokesperson with the Longview Fire Department, the leak started about 111:30 a.m. Monday when a backhoe digging on a city right of way struck a pipe.

The fire department has recommended that people in three nearby homes evacuate the area.

Centerpoint Energy crews have responded to the scene to fix the leak.

According to an official at the scene, a crew was testing gas levels when they struck the line.
