They are young, and they have a lot of work to do, but LeTourneau University's mens soccer team has high hopes for the coming season. The YellowJackets received a lot of attention today at LeTourneau's media day. They are a young team with a lot of East Texas ties, among the players, as well as the coach.
"I've had a lot of success at Pine Tree," said head coach Tom Wait, "and it has helped me with a reputation to where I can get to talk to some kids locally and get some good local talent to come out here."
"I believe Coach Wait will bring great success here," said sophomore forward Cory Phillips, who played for Wait at Pine Tree as well. "He's a great recruiter, bringing in strong freshman."
"We got a lot of years coming up with this new group," said freshman forward Rudy Galvan, who played at Kilgore high school for both the soccer team, and the state championship football team. "I think we have potential to make it pretty far."
The YellowJackets, picked to finish 10th in the conference, open their season at home September 2 against Bacone College.
