Man found hiding under residence during standoff with Smith County deputies

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - On March 1st, at approximately 4:30 pm, deputies form the Smith County Sheriff's Office attempted to serve multiple arrest warrants at a residence in the 2300 block of County Road 326 E, near Tyler. Upon arrival at the location, deputies established a perimeter and attempted to make contact with the occupants of the residence.

The wanted subject Excsau Duran H/M 10-13-1982, who was known to be in the residence then locked all entry points to the residence and refused to surrender to deputies. The owner of the residence arrived at the location and provided deputies with a key.

Deputies had to force entry into the residence. A Smith County Sheriff's K-9 was deployed into the residence followed by deputies who then searched the residence to locate Duran. A crawl space that lead under the residence was located. Duran was then found to be hiding under the residence.

Negotiators attempted to get Duran to surrender but he refused. Chemical agents were deployed with no immediate effect. The Smith County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team responded to the location. Communications with Duran were reestablished and at approximately 6:42 pm, Duran was taken into custody without further incident.

Duran was transported to the Smith County Jail where he was booked for Possession of a Controlled Substance and a Parole Violation. He is being held without bond.
