Firefighters Home Burns In Perryville

A man who fights fires for East Texans, found himself battling his own house fire yesterday. Around noon, fire broke out at the home of Bobby Shelton in Perryville in western Upshur County.

Shelton is the fire chief there. He was able to get his children and numerous possessions out of the home before fire crews arrived to douse the blaze.

Heavy damage was done to three rooms of the home and the roof caved in. An Ogburn firefighter suffered an apparent heart attack fighting the blaze and had to be airlifted to a Tyler hospital. That firefighter is expected to recover. Fortunately, no one else was injured.
