Komen Race For The Cure Nets More Money Than Ever

Nearly a quarter million dollars is given for breast cancer research -- all from a few thousand folks lacing up their walking shoes.

The total check to the Komen Foundation from May's "Race For The Cure" in Tyler amounts to more than $236,000.

Around 4,800 people hit the streets in May to fight breast cancer. Organizers say so many folks turned out because the disease does not just impact patients.

Peggy Suggs, Tyler Affiliate Director of the Komen Foundation: "It seems like everyone is touched by cancer. Either they are, or they know someone who is. And since there are so many who are, we are worried about early detection."

Preparations for next year's race will kick off in October.
