2018 primary elections: Unopposed candidates looking toward November

EAST MOUNTAIN, TX (KLTV) - East Texans head to hte polls on Tuesday, March 6, to cast ballots in the primary of their choice.

Here's a look at the candidates who are looking ahead to the November general election:

Texas House

District 1: 

Republican Gary Van Deaver is running unopposed in the primary. Van Deaver is currently serving his second term as State Representative for Texas House District 1, which includes Bowie, Lamar, and Red River counties.  He is the vice-chairman of the House Committee on Administration and also a member of the Public Education Committee and the Appropriations Committee, which is charged with writing the state budget.

District 7:

Republican Jay Dean is running for his second term unopposed in the primary. Dean was elected in 2016 to serve as State Representative for House District 7, the area encompassing Gregg and Upshur Counties. Dean supports the $1.3 billion tax relief package passed by the conservative Texas Legislature this year, and if re-elected as State Representative he says he will work to attract the best possible jobs to our district and to our state.

District 11: 

Republican Travis Clardy is running unopposed in the primary. Clardy was first elected into office in 2012 to serve the people of Cherokee, Nacogdoches and Rusk Counties. Currently, Travis serves as Vice Chair of the Local and Consent Calendars Committee,  member of the Higher Education Committee, and State and Federal Power and Responsibility Committee.

Smith County

241st District Court:

Judge Jack Skeen does not have a Republican challenger. Skeen was appointed in 2003. He has served 3 consecutive four-year terms. Skeen announced he would be seeking re-election in March of 2017. Skeen served as the former Smith County district attorney for 21 years. Read more here.

County Court-at-law:

Jason Ellis is running unopposed in the Republican primary. Ellis entered into office as Presiding Judge in 2015. Read more here.

County Court-at-law No. 2: 

Republican Taylor Heaton does not have a Republican challenger in his bid to replace retiring Judge Randall Lee Rogers. learn more about Heaton here.

County Court-at-law No. 3:

Republican Floyd Getz is the current presiding judge for County Court at Law No. 3. He is running unopposed in the primary.

County Clerk:

Republican Karen Phillips is running unopposed in the primary election.

County Treasurer:

Republican Kelli R. White is without a Republican challenger in the primary.

Justice of the Peace 1:

Democrat Quincy Beavers Jr. is running unopposed in the primary election.

Justice of the Peace 2:

Republican Andy Dunklin is running unopposed. Gary Alred vacated the position.

Justice of the Peace 4:

Republican Thomas (Mitch) Shamburger is running unopposed in the primary.

Gregg County:

188th District Court:

Republican Scott Novy is running unopposed in the primary. Judge David Brabham announced he is retiring. Novy was assistant district attorney when Brabham was District Attorney. Novy is also a former Lakeport Municipal judge. Learn more about him here. 

307th District Judge: 

Republican Tim Womack is running unopposed in the primary election. Womack currently serves as the 307th District Judge and is incumbent.

County Commissioner, Pct. 4

Kesha Williams is running unopposed in the primary election for the seat held by John Mathis. Mathis endorses Williams for the position. Williams is currently on the Longview city council which she has served for almost 7 years.

County Judge:

Republican Bill Stoudt, incumbent, is running unopposed in the primary election.

Court at Law No. 1: 

Republican Kent Phillips, running unopposed as an incumbent.

Court at Law No. 2:

Republican Vincent L. Dulweber, running unopposed in the primary as an incumbent.

Commissioner, Pct. 2: 

Republican Darryl Primo, is running unopposed in the primary as an incumbent..

Justice of the Peace 1:

Republican B.H. Jameson, incumbent, is running unopposed in the primary.

Justice of the Peace 2:

Republican Tim Bryan is running unopposed as an incumbent.

Republican Talyna Bennett Carlson, running unopposed as an incumbent in the primary.

Angelina County:

159th District Judge:

217th District Judge:

Republican Robert Inselmann, running unopposed in the primary as an incumbent.
