All Smith County employees may soon get a three-percent raise, if it fits within next year's budget.
It was discussed today in a meeting with Smith County Commissioners, judges and other employees. The county auditor will consider the proposal, made by a district judge.
Commissioners also discussed the new jail proposal. They and judges have been looking at justice centers in other counties as models.
"You know, every time you visit a facility, you see things that are really great," Precinct 3 Commissioner Bobby Van Ness said. "We don't want to do a cookie-cutter jail. We want to have a jail that's going to fit Smith County's needs."
Tomorrow night, you are invited to a public meeting to talk about the Smith County Jail and its future. Commissioners are holding it at 6 p.m. at the Lindale Justice Center.
