TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Funding in schools across the district can often be scarce, that's why the Tyler Independent School District Foundation was created.
The TISD Foundation Grant surprised teachers with funding for their own special programs.
"So many teachers are going to be rewarded and have these great ideas that are students are ultimately going to benefit from," TISD executive communications director Dawn Parnell said.
It's the surprise every teacher wishes they could receive.
"We always keep our fingers crossed and we always hope for the best," Hogg Middle School performing arts department head, Alacia Reid said. "We put in for big and just hoping that we could get help and this is huge."
The Tyler ISD Foundation Grant awarded a total of over 30,000 dollars to 25 teachers throughout the district.
"We are very excited that the community and our donors have supported the foundation and ultimately our students through these innovative programs today," Parnell said.
After getting a new theater director, the Hogg Middle School staff knew they wanted to apply for the grant.
"We got together and knew that we wanted to go big next year for our musical," Reid said.
Planning on including both English and Spanish in the musical, Reid says it's unimaginable that they received the grant.
"As teachers, that's what we want to do, we always want to provide the best experiences that we can provide for them," Reid said. "And the foundation money is going help us to really make a lifelong lasting impression for not just next years students but for the ones to come."
Grants were awarded to various departments throughout elementary, middle and high schools within in district.
