LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

Longview police say the incident during which a body was found on the railroad tracks Tuesday afternoon, was an apparent suicide.

Authorities responded to the scene, at about 100 yards west of the intersection of Industrial Boulevard and Highway 80, on the train tracks.

Police say the body was spotted about 12:45 p.m. by a worker on another train who was traveling on the opposite track.

Union Pacific Spokesman Jeff DeGraff said that at about 12:30 p.m., a person stepped onto the train tracks and was hit by a train that was traveling westbound.

DeGraff said that no one realized a person had been struck and the train continued traveling west. A few moments later, someone on an eastbound train spotted the person and alerted Union Pacific dispatch and local responders.

"Our investigators are arriving to gather as much information as they can and we're working with local authorities there, the Longview Police Department," DeGraff said.

At this time, the person has not been identified and the incident remains under investigation.
