East Texas Military Installations Face Possibility Of Being Closed

Today, The Base Closure and Realignment Commission will start a 3-day voting process on whether to close or downsize several military installations nationwide.

Four Texas installations are being considered for closure, including the Red River Army Depot in Hooks and the  Lone Star Ammunition Plant in Texarkana

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld says the plan could save taxpayers up to 49-billion dollars over the next 20 years.

After the votes are made, the Commission has until September 8th to present their recommendations to President Bush.
