Tyler police respond to a car/train crash

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Sunday afternoon, the Tyler Police Department responded to an accident involving a car and a Union Pacific Railroad Train.

The crash happened at Oakwood Street and Spring Avenue railroad crossing.

A press release stated, "A witness reported that the railroad crossing arms came down while a white sedan passenger vehicle had already entered onto to the tracks stopping between the arms as they deployed. The driver attempted to make a U-turn to exit the tracks and before completing the turn the vehicle was struck by the first engine that was traveling slowly."

One adult woman was driving the vehicle, and three children, ages 3, 9, and 10, were also in the car.

Minor injuries were reported by the driver of the car. No one was transported to a hospital for medical treatment.

The investigation is ongoing. A Union Pacific representative responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
