Longview Man Prepares To Donate 30th Gallon Of Blood

He's donated blood for more than 30 years, and now, Ray Barber of Longview is one pint away from donating his 30th gallon. Ray is O positive, the most common and widely used blood type.

The 81-year-old began donating blood in 1972. He has donated whole blood or platelets 249 times. Since moving to Longview, he's donated 37 times at Stewart Regional Blood Center.

Ray said, "I'm proud, I'm glad I did. I'm glad for two reasons. I'm glad that it helped people and I'm proud because I'm healthy enough that I can do that."

Ray plans on reaching the 30 gallon milestone in October at Stewart Regional Blood Center.
