AUSTIN, TX (KLTV) - Texans can expect two new specialty license plates from a state vendor. The two new designs, approved earlier in the month by TxDMV Board, are a Route 66 and a Racing Stripe Red design.

The Route 66 design, by My Plates, will include a Texas US.66 road sign and will include the signature Route 66 slogan "Get Your Kicks." The design celebrates Texas's connection to Route 66 which cuts through the panhandle of Texas. The plate design was proposed as a result of a survey done in 2017 where hundreds of people showed their support for the design. Texas would join several other states such as Illinois, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arizona that have a license plate dedicated to Route 66.

"This is such an iconic route in the U.S, so it's time that Texas also provide a Route 66 plate for all those travelers, adventurers, desperados and dreamers who have had the chance to experience this historic route to proudly show their support on their bumpers" said Steve Farrar, President of My Plates.

My Plates will dedicate 10 percent of the proceeds to Old Route 66 Association of Texas Fund.

The other new design is a Racing Stripe design that complements the sleek design of sports cars. The design is a red background with black stripes that mimics the look of racing stripes painted on a sports car. If the design is successful My Plates will look into other color combinations.

My Plates is now accepting pre-orders for the plate and would need 200 orders in order move the plates to production and release.
