TROUP, TX (KLTV) -

Troup Chamber of Commerce:

On a cold and rainy day, many friends and fellow officers from several East Texas agencies joined with the Troup Police Department to bid farewell to Troup’s former K9 Officer Luke.

Officer Luke joined Troup PD in May of 2007. At his retirement on Oct. 1, 2017, Luke was the department’s second senior officer. When the city relinquished ownership, Luke went home with his long-time PD partner Sgt. Kyle Stowers where he lived in retirement until his health declined. Luke was 14 years old at his death.

On his watch Officer Luke was a key player in many drug arrests, searches as well as making many school children very happy when he visited Troup schools as a goodwill ambassador.

Troup PD was able to lay Luke to rest with honor as any law enforcement officer might be due to the dedicated work of Troup High School senior Jeff Fields McCormack. Jeff raised more than $2,000 for the K9 unit last year as his National Honor Society project.
