EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - Very heavy, flooding rainfall has occurred today in many areas and it is now likely to continue through Friday. An abundance of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean, along with a slow moving cold front, will keep rain chances high through the end of the week. Rainfall totals of well over 5" have occurred in some areas since Tuesday, and an additional 3"-6" is possible through Friday. Yes, there is a chance for some to get more than 6" in the heaviest rainfall events.
Flash Flooding will be the greatest risk through Friday. Lightning/Thunder will certainly be possible through this time period as well.
As we head into the weekend, a strong cold front is likely to move through East Texas. This front may produce some strong to severe thunderstorms in East Texas.
We will continue to watch/monitor this as well. Please stay tuned and please download the KLTV Weather App. It is FREE and very useful.
