TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Starting February 21, 2018 Tyler Junior College's Theatre Department is kicking off a four-night run of the critically acclaimed musical, 'In the Heights'.
The story explores three days in the characters' lives in New York City's Latino neighborhood of "Washington Heights." It explores themes like hope in times of adversity and the importance of family ties. The music features hip-hop, salsa, merengue and soul.
Rebecca Faulds-Howard, the director of the play says the department makes sure students are involved in every aspect of the show's production.
"It's all student-driven," said Faulds-Howard. "They build the sets, they learn how to hang the lights, and they learn how to use the board. So, it has been a process for the last 5 weeks of students learning under faculty supervision."
'In the Heights' runs February 21 through the 24 at 7:30 p. m. at TJC's wise Auditorium.
