TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

The Tyler Police Department welcomed five new police officers to the team Monday.

The police recruits just graduated from the Tyler Junior College Police Academy where they spent about five and a half months learning about firearms, police driving, and criminal investigations.

Police Chief Jimmy Toler conducted the ceremony by giving the recruits the Oath of Office and officially welcoming them as new Tyler Police Officers. The new officers said it's exciting to receive their badge and they're proud to be part of Tyler PD.

"I wanted to have a more active role in contributing to the community; I mean you see things all the time and you think that wouldn't happen, or you wonder where the police are or what they're doing, and so, I wanted to be the one to go out there and take that action and make improvement where I could," Tyler said Police Officer Jon Stone.
