Deputies nab robbery suspects with 20 guns in vehicle

ANDERSON COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Two aggravated robbery suspects were captured Friday in Anderson County with 20 weapons in their vehicle.

The arrests followed a short foot pursuit.

Darryl Wayne Lewis Jr., 22, and John Davis Angton, 26, were taken into custody and booked into the Anderson County Jail. Each is charged with aggravated robbery.

The incident began about 9:45 a.m. when deputies with the Anderson County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a robbery at a home on ACR 1231.

The 9-1-1 caller told the dispatcher that two males had robbed him at gunpoint at the residence. He told told dispatch they were driving a Chevy El Camino and were heading west toward Palestine.

The victim also told officials that one suspect went by "DJ" and lived in the Neches area.

An ACSO captain and sergeant who were traveling on Highway 84 spotted a vehicle fitting the description and attempted to make a traffic stop in the 4400 block of Highway 84 East.

When the driver - later identified as Angton - stopped the vehicle, Lewis Jr. fled on foot.

With the help of a constable, the passenger was apprehended in the woods after a foot pursuit.

The sheriff's office recovered about 20 guns of various types from the vehicle.

Lewis Jr. and Angton have not been arraigned and no bond has been set at this time. More charges are pending.
