Jim Beggerly was awarded two Silver Stars, six Distinguished Flying Crosses and twenty-two Air Medals for heroism during the Vietnam War. He flew 210 search and rescue missions, often placing his life in danger to rescue others. Ironically, Jim's dad, Lieutenant Colonel Doug Beggerly, a veteran of three wars and pilot of Airforce One, won the same medals and also flew combat missions at the same time Jim was fying in Vietnam. After twenty-two years in the Airforce, Jim Beggerly became a pilot for American Airlines for fifteen years. Recently retired, Beggerly admits he misses flying but says fishing is his passion now and East Texas is the best place to indulge that passion.
